A prayer for life...

Recently we have been made aware that we are raising teenagers. Technically, Jacquilin is only 10 but I think it's close enough. Bert and I both thought we had a handle on this raising kids thing when all of a sudden, we feel like we are surrounded by wolves. It's not anything new or earth shattering it's just life and we are aware it's an evil world. AND, everyone is dealing with this on some level.

I was listening to the the radio on the way home from work this afternoon and this author was telling how he and his wife turned this Bible verse into a prayer that they have been prayer for 20+ years. I thought it was great and plan on praying it myself in the midst of helping these beautiful kids become responsible, God fearing, God loving adults.
"The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it." Proverbs 27:12
Heavenly Father, help us be prudent and see trouble/danger before it gets to us, give us wisdom in dealing with it and courage to do something about it.

Random Spring Break 2009

It looks like Luke didn't get to do anything for Spring break but he really did. He went with middle school group from church and did mission projects. I think this is such a great idea. He especially liked the prayer walk he did with the Salvation Army church. He said they walked around a neighborhood with a flag and if people needed prayer they stopped the group and everyone prayed.

I wanted to get a couple of pictures of the kids in the middle school before they left to do some of these mission projects. Luke couldn't believe I actually brought my camera into the building. I tried to get him to stand with a couple of friends. He stood with Spencer because Spencer made him, but when I tried to get any other pics he ran. Aaauuugh! It's tough being a 13 year old boy!

This is what I do!! Not just during Spring break but ALL the time! I am always driving one kid somewhere and picking another kid up. This is the season of life I'm in. I actually enjoy it. I've started reading a lot again and get a great deal of reading time while waiting in various parking lots around Franklin. If you see me at a stop light and I'm looking at my lap it's probably because I just have to finish a chapter.

Meeting baby Hunter.

We wanted to meet Hunter the day he was born but the kids had school and Jacqulin had a choir concert that night. Then, the concert was cancelled because we had tornadoes. I voted to not drive to the hospital and dodge the weather. Jacqulin and I were leaving the next morning to go out of town. So, when we finally got to hold him all the visitors were out of our way and we had him to ourselves. Jacqulin said that I am a baby hog and I didn't let her hold him long enough. So, I admit it, I am a baby hog!!!
Jacqulin looks like she is holding a baby doll. And in fact he is a doll and a sweet baby boy.
We are so glad you are here baby Hunter. I hope you are letting your Mom rest a little.

Girls Trip!!!

Jacqulin and I had a chance to take our first girls trip. We went to High Point, NC. Bert has been working with a women's speaking conference called Extraordinary Women. They were having a conference in High Point. We were able to combine a little fun with seeing all of Bert's great work and meeting the women who are speaking on the tour.

We got our nails done. Look closely there are music notes on J's toes!! And see if you recognize the lady she is standing with. It's Candace Cameron Bure. She played D.J. Tanner on the show "Full House." Jacqulin became a fan on the show when Derrick and Heather gave her a season on DVD for a gift. She has several seasons now and it's always a favorite to watch in the car on a trip. It was great fun for Jacqulin to actually meet Candace. We were able to hear her give her testimony at this conference. I wanted Jacqulin to hear how Candace has chosen to put Jesus first. She even talked about having to draw a line in the sand with the entertainment industry about what she will and will not do/say in her work.

A Day in Mayberry

Goober says "Hey!"

Jacqulin and I had a great time at the Mayberry Court House and at the Darlin farm.

Jacqulin and I went back in time and spent a couple hours in Mayberry. We visited Opie's Candy Shoppe and felt safe knowing that Barney had his eye on us.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY HUNTER!!!!

He's here! Baby Hunter came flying into this world around 4:40 a.m. this morning. I don't have pictures yet but we are so excited.
Happy Birthday Hunter!!
Mom, Heather, called this morning to let us know, she sounded tired but very excited. So, I know Mom is doing o.k. not sure about Dad, Derrick. I'm sure after he gets some sleep he will be fine too!
